From the Slopes of Mt. Etna – Tenuta delle Terre Nere | Saturday, August 1 | 4pm EST, 3pm CST

The Sicilian estate of Terre Nere represents the staggering, raw beauty of vineyards on Mount Etna, an active volcano that “spills” every 20 years. Etna provides unparalleled terroir for Nerello Mascalese and Carricante, the red and white grapes with spectacular quality potential. Terre Nere was born of Marc and Iano Degrazia’s vision starting over 30 years ago – they were the clear leaders in restoring historic abandoned vineyards on the northern slopes of the volcano, ranging up to 1000 meters, over 3,000 feet above sea level! Marco describes Etna as “…an extraordinary location, this “island within an island” that my brother and I chose. And that, I sometimes believe, actually chose us. A place where nature is prodigal but also severe.” If you haven’t explored Sicily, this tasting is an open door into a world of complex, delicious, ageworthy wines that are at the beginning of their journey into our awareness. If you’ve been spoiled by red and white Burgundy, Barolo and Barbaresco, this tasting is a must. The photographs alone are stunning! We’ll be joined from the winery by Christian Liistro, Marco’s right hand man.

2018 Etna Rosso Plum Price 19.97
2017 Etna Rosso Santo Spirito Plum Price 39.99

We area so lucky to welcome one of our very favorite winemakers from a beloved California label, Theresa Heredia of Gary Farrell Vineyards! The Russian River Valley is familiar to all of us who love California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Theresa, through the use of her terrific maps, will show us the site specific climate of the RRV based on proximity, or distance, from the Pacific and the unique composition of soils. And, she has terrific stories to tell from her close relationships with historic growers. Her laser clarity, knowledge and open-hearted generosity with be a great treat to experience!
