Think Local, Eat Local, Shop Local

We're often asked about our corporate provenance. We're locally owned! Matt & Marc Jonna made a clear and conscious business decision to start Plum Market right here in Michigan. They are from Michigan, their families are here in Michigan, and it was very important to them both that Plum Market would have its beginnings in Michigan.

We feature locally made products and we support other locally owned businesses! Whether it's a farm like Garden Works or Maple Creek, or someone who has a little wider distribution like Al Dente Pasta, or something on an even bigger scale like Eden Foods, we believe we should support, promote and highlight our fellow Michigan businesses.

And for the record, when we say local, we mean MICHIGAN. Other folks in town may consider the entire Midwest region to be local, and that's fine for them. But we think that Michigan has a lot going for it, and has great things in its future, and we want to support other Michigan business owners whenever we can.

The Legacy

After eight years’ sabbatical from the Merchant of Vino family business days, brothers Matt and Marc Jonna sought to introduce an exciting new concept in grocery shopping with their first Plum Market in 2007.

The philosophy is simple. Says Matt, “We have set out to create a grocery experience like no other. We believe that choice is paramount, and our product selection reflects that.” Mixing the very best in natural, organic, specialty and local products, the aisles are filled with inviting aromas and unexpected delights.

Having learned the art of merchandising from their father during the Merchant of Vino days, every detail has been attended to.

Perhaps produce is the perfect example of the Jonna craft. Simply entering the produce department arouses the senses. Depending on the season, it is the perfume of strawberries or the fragrance of ripe peaches or the crisp clean scent of fresh lettuces and greens that draws you in. Under the direction of brother Marc, Plum Market’s produce buyers are down at the terminal in the wee hours of the morning, picking the fruits and vegetables that will grace the display tables. Impeccable freshness, incomparable quality—Plum Market will accept nothing less. Our selection of organically grown fruits and vegetables is incomparable. And our commitment to the sourcing the local community is perhaps nowhere more evident than in the Produce Department. Michigan growers are highlighted and showcased, and Michigan-grown fruits and vegetables are given prominence in the department. As soon as it is in season, for as long as it is in season, you can find the best that Michigan has to offer at Plum Market.

This is not your neighborhood supermarket. It is much, much more. In short, Plum Market and the Jonnas want nothing less than to revolutionize the way your family shops for food.
