Wine

From Thanksgiving to Friendsgiving and all of the dinner parties in between, wine will always be table’s centerpiece. Pairing wine with food can be a stressful task, but so can gifting the host or hostess a bottle of vino too! For as complex it may seem at times, at the end of the day wine is simple, thoughtful, and wonderful at bringing a group together.

We’ve asked our First Lady of Wine, Madeline Triffon, MS, and her team of Sommeliers to share their favorite bottle of vino for thanksgiving so you can enjoy the simple, cheerful, glass-clinking, toast-worthy side of wine. Scroll through this year’s Thanksgiving Wine Guide for crowd-pleasing bottles to geeky showstoppers. Visit our knowledgeable staff of wine connoisseurs and Sommeliers to help find a wine listed or something similar and equally endearing. We’re here to help you find the perfect finishing touch to your holiday affairs.

2017 Louis Latour ‘La Grande Roche’ Montagny 1er Cru Côte Chalonnaise
Gorgeous un-oaked French Chardonnay – satiny smooth, medium-bodied, with classic golden apple and Bosc pear flavors. Round and refreshing, an all-purpose sipper with or without holiday fare. From a single vineyard high in the sunny hillsides of the Montagny commune, exclusively planted to Chardonnay. Madeline Triffon, MS

2017 Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Estate Riesling, Pfalz
Floral-fragrant, fruity-dry, super pretty Riesling! Mouth-filling flavors of granny smith apples and peaches, in a light, cleansing style. Ideal for pleasing a wide variety of palates, and will wrap around holiday fare spiked with sweetness.  From one of the largest family-owned estates in Germany; biodynamically grown in the sunny Pfalz. Madeline Triffon, MS

2017 Domaine Diochon Moulin-à-Vent Cru Beaujolais
Wow what a nose! Gamay at its very best – deep, pure cherry fruit and violet floral tones.  The flavor is exotic, as if a little cardamom were added.  A surprising amount of complexity and grip, with an inorganic earth tone thanks to granitic soils.  Tailor-made for the family table – bring on the sage dressing, ham and cranberries!  BBQ & grilled salmon! Stunning buy from the most famous Cru in Beaujolais. Madeline Triffon, MS

2016 Domaine de La Solitude Chateauneuf-du-Pape ‘Tradition Rouge’
A classic example of the style of Red from this famous site in the Southern Rhone Valley of France.  The property has been owned for over five centuries by the Lancon family and they have consistently produced high quality red and white wines from the Rhone Valley.
This vintage is based on Grenache and Syrah with a bit of Mourvedre and Cinsault which results in a wine with rich deep flavors but very enjoyable at this young age.  This a bottle that will please your guests for Thanksgiving and pairs well with variety of foods that will be served. Dennis Walsh, Wine Team Leader – Plum Market West Bloomfield

Domaine Lupin Frangy Roussette de Savoie
50 year old Roussette vines from Frangy, a favored site in Savoie.  Has the fatness of Chardonnay but with a dazzling minerality. Made even more exotic and fetching by notes of gingerbread, green apple and stone fruits.  Mike Fifer, Wine Team Leader – Plum Market Ann Arbor West

2015 Domaine Drouhin RoseRock Pinot Noir, Oregon
The best of both worlds: a prestigious Burgundy house making wine in Oregon for nearly 30 years. This Pinot Noir has the stuffing and the balance to equally deal with rich dishes and delicate meats. Floral and spicy, this wine delivers pure red fruits dressed in polished, silky tannins. A killer value. Jean-Baptiste Tricot, Wine Team Leader – Plum Market Old Town, Chicago

2017 Willems-Willems Riesling Feinherb “Auf der Lauer,” Oberemmel
An outstanding, off-dry Mosel Riesling that is complimentary to most Thanksgiving fare.  Notes of pear, green apple, lemon, and subtle caramelized sugar present themselves on the palate which is backed by vibrant acidity.  It’s delicate without getting lost against traditional turkey or your favorite ham and it is a star with supporting dishes like sweet potatoes and oyster stuffing.  Prost! Jason Kugel, CSW, Wine Team Member – Plum Market Bloomfield

2018 Domaine de Terrebrune Rosé, Bandol
ag92  Glistening orange. Powerful, mineral-accented citrus fruit, red berry and succulent herb scents, along with a suave floral nuance. Chewy and sharply focused on the palate, offering concentrated strawberry, cherry, blood orange and smoky mineral qualities and deeper suggestions of peach pit and fennel. Delivers a solid punch of flavor but comes off lithe, the mineral and floral elements carrying through the very long, precise finish. 60% Mourvèdre, 20% Cinsault, 20% Grenache.  Rod Johnson, Beverage Coordinator – Ann Arbor
List Price $45 | Plum Price $34.97*

2019 Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais Primeur
Pierre-Marie selects, from 20th October, the most supple cuvées with the best fruit expression for the assembly of his Beaujolais Nouveau Griottes.  This cuvée is the epitome of Beaujolais Nouveau while remaining natural, with subtle aromas and flavours. This forthright, supple and easy to drink wine opens onto fruit and freshness with the sharp flavours of fresh small red fruit. A charming wine that lights up November!  Sustainably farmed, only using indigenous yeasts, long fermentations and making whole-cluster (semi-carbonic) wines in the old foudres built by Pierre’s great-grandfather. The yields are so low and the grapes so naturally ripe that he does not chaptalise.  The wines are bottled with little or no filtration and no sulfur or very little depending on the cuvée.  Bravo!  Travis Reeves, Team Leader – Downtown Detroit
