Who doesn’t love the ripe, peppery expressions of France’s Rhône reds, with their signature scents of dried herbs, potpourri, and raspberry fruit? A slew of American winemakers calling themselves the Rhône Rangers (whimsical play on “Lone Ranger”) has passionately, and very effectively, promoted the production Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and their oeno-family members in the U.S. We’ll highlight standard bearers for this category, including Randall Grahm, the original Rhône Ranger in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Qupé and Beckmen Vineyards from Santa Barbara County, Tablas Creek from Paso Robles, Domaine de la Terre Rouge in Amador County, and Cline Cellars from Sonoma-Carneros. We’re excited to show the “natural wines” from the Donkey and Goat, sourcing grapes from Mendocino vineyards, and from La Clarine Farm in the Sierra Nevada Foothills.
