Details

How often does anyone get the opportunity to open a single bottle of estate bottled Burgundy from a fine grower-producer, especially from a Premier or Grand Cru vineyard? Considered the “holy grail” by wine lovers and winemakers alike, Burgundy (a.k.a Bourgogne) in eastern France is the ancestral home of great Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The heart of this region, a 35-mile stretch called the Côte d’Or (Slope of Gold) radiates Burgundy’s nuance of terroir - the effect of vineyard location on these two noble grapes. We’ll taste ten wines from recent vintages (2014, 2015) from the domaines of A. Guyon (Savigny-les-Beaune, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin), Bertagna (Vougeot, Vosne-Romanée) and Coffinet-Dervernay (Chassagne-Montrachet). We may also hop up into Chablis or down into the Maconnais. Our very special guest will be Pascal Salvadori, Education Director for the Esprit du Vin portfolio. To assemble a tasting of this pedigree on one’s own would take hundreds of dollars!
