Expert Reviews: Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines
Not always consistent over the years, this latest version is young yet rich, fruity yet layered and a bit narrow yet deep enough to be convincing. More than that, it impresses today for its foamy, mouthfilling bubbles and long, lemony aftertaste. It can stand a bit of bottle age to gain a more rounded and complex patina, and, whether enjoyed now or later, it will be at home with either of platter of fresh-shucked oysters.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar
Aromas of lemon, currant, clove and mint; slightly rustic. Then fresh and frothy, with a strong mousse. Distinctly floral suggestion of rose petal to go with the berry flavors. Rather lacy for a wine from this house; not as weighty as some past releases of this wine. But boasts plenty of extract, and a generous, firm finish.
