Natural, Non-Interventionist Wines: Louis/Dressner Selections

Thursday, October 5th, 6:30pm l In-Person Tasting at Plum Market Ann Arbor North Campus 3601 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor, MI

Louis/Dressner Selections are synonymous with eclectic, terroir driven, natural wines. The company was founded in 1988 by Denyse Louis, a Burgundian, and Joe Dressner, a New Yorker, who met and married as graduate students at NYU. Alongside the work of Kermit Lynch and Neil Rosenthal, the Dressners created their company with “vignerons independents”, small producer/farmers, during the height of 80’s mass consumerism. Today, their portfolio includes over 100 vignerons hailing from France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Slovenia and Chile. “We have no brands. We do have a group of often fanatical growers, making their wines with honesty, passion and humor.” The Dressner priorities include key elements of viticultural and winemaking: low yields, no herbicides, hand-harvesting, no lab-cultured yeasts, no filtration, little if any use of SO2 and new oak. We’ll taste around 12 wines – Gamay, Sancerre and Muscadet from the Loire Valley, Macon and Côte de Brouilly from Burgundy, Minervois & Côtes Catalanes from southern France, Negroamaro from Puglia, sparkling wine from Sicily, and Tawny Port. As eclectic as it gets!
