Winemaker Notes: Dom Ruinart Rosé 2007 is an exceptional vintage which owes its rarity to its selection of grands crus: 80% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs (Avize, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Chouilly) and the Montagne de Reims (Sillery, Verzenay) blended with 20% Pinot Noir vinified in red, from the only Grand Cru of Aÿ. The originality of this blend, largely dominated by Chardonnay, gives this wine remarkable freshness.

Tasting Notes: This vintage is a wine of character, chiseled and dynamic. On the nose, it blends notes of roasting with aromas of ripe citrus fruits. On the palate, Chardonnay brings straightness and freshness. The finish, nicely structured and with contained power, lets Pinot Noir express itself with a fine bitterness underlined by the low dosage.

The first nose reveals a warm and sunny register with notes of roasting, coffee and cocoa bean which mingle with aromas of candy apple and ripe citrus fruits such as mandarin, blood orange, and kumquat.

The palate, initially marked with a frank and straight mark, gives way to notes of plum and hibiscus, which are complemented by hints of fully ripe citrus fruits such as blood orange. The 2007 vintage has a sappy profile, supported by a nice freshness on the finish.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The 2007 Dom Ruinart Rosé is showing brilliantly, bursting from the glass with exuberant aromas of blood orange, tangerine and raspberries, mingled with hints of buttered toast, brioche and spices. Full-bodied, deep and vinous, it's layered and elegantly muscular, with terrific concentration and a racy spine of acidity, enlivened by a pillowy mousse. Concluding with a long and sapid finish, it's aromatically open but structurally tightly wound, so I suspect it will reward another few years' age on cork, even if it's hard to resist today. In any case, it deserves to participate in any discussion of the 2007 Champagne vintage's high points."

Vinous - "The 2007 Dom Ruinart Rosé is fabulous. The Rosé has all of the energy of the Blanc, with the extra richness that comes from the Pinot in the blend. Rose petal, mint, blood orange and cinnamon are some of the many aromas and flavors that are laced throughout. There is a feeling of translucence in the Rosé that is impossible to miss. I would cellar it for a few years. This is another magnificent wine from Chef de Caves Frédéric Panaïotis in his first vintage at Ruinart. Disgorged: February, 2018."

Decanter - "2007 is the first vintage with Frédéric Panaiotis as chef de cave. Made from 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir (vinified as red wine), this rosé possesses a fresh bouquet with mandarin, spring flowers and zesty aromas. Delicate and very precise, the palate is bright and crystalline, with a menthol finish. Superb!"

Wine Spectator - "Rich notes of grilled nut and toasted brioche play off the vibrant acidity that frames this seamlessly knit rosé Champagne, enlivening flavors of ripe white peach, acacia blossom and blood orange sorbet. Creamy and elegant, but shows restrained power, with real drive pushing through to the lasting finish, where smoke and spice accents echo. Disgorged February 2018."

James Suckling - "A rich, mellow and very complex Champagne that’s light-years removed from the great majority of rosés. Amazing texture, thanks to the enormous yeast contact, but there’s easily enough freshness to carry the mouth-filling body and major depth. Dried-apricot and caramelized mandarin-orange character, together with notes of tobacco leaf and subtle spice. Fully 80% chardonnay plus 20% of pinot noir from Aÿ, which was all vinified as red wine. Drink or hold."

Wine Enthusiast - "While the aroma suggests this is an old wine, the palate discloses a very good balance between fruit and toasty maturity. It is a great Champagne, less of a rosé now and more of a rich, intense wine. Drink now while that attractive balance is there."
