2009 Dom Ruinart Brut Rose Champagne with Wood Box
Winemaker Notes: Dom Ruinart Rosé 2009 reveals a delicate pink color with raspberry highlights. The first nose reveal spicy notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger, which mingle with refreshing citrus aromas such as blood orange and kumquat. Second impressions are more floral, unveiling violet and peony complemented by fresh, iodised oyster shell notes. The attack is enveloping and silky with notes of tangy red fruits such as pomegranate and redcurrant. The mid-palate is smooth and saline. Firm and intense, the finish is supported by a delicate bitterness and a fine effervescence.
In 2009, hail, rain, and wind disrupted the flowering process but were soon replaced by a dry summer. These summer conditions allowed for the perfect maturation of the grapes until the mid-September harvest. The average sunshine, combined with cool temperatures, enhanced the fruit's aroma while preserving the right acidity sought after by the Maison. Resident chef Valérie Radou and cellar master Frédéric Panaïotis recommend pairing this exceptional champagne with oily fish or white meat dishes seasoned with warm spices, citrus fruit, or vegetables like squash and carrot.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "A blend of 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Noir from Aÿ and a dosage of four grams per liter, the 2009 Dom Ruinart Rosé possesses a complex, vibrant bouquet with aromas of cherry, spring flowers, gooseberry, tangerine, almonds, pastry and slightly reductive elegant notes. Full-bodied, fleshy and vinous, the palate is perfectly balanced, dense and concentrated, with a delicate mousse and a long, saline, penetrating finish. There’s plenty of structure and substance here. There is no reason to wait, but it will age beautifully for another five to eight years."
Jeb Dunnuck - "Salmon-colored with a tinge of copper, the 2009 Champagne Dom Ruinart Rosé has the same base as the Blanc, but with the 15% addition of red wine, and has 4 grams per liter of dosage. Floral and exuberant with springy freshness, it opens to aromas of fresh peach, pressed flowers, and rocky earth. It takes time to open in the glass, but the palate is supple and soft, with medium body and a touch of warmth on the finish. It’s a bit more subtle compared to the Blanc De Blancs Extra Brut, but it’s very pretty as it opens. Drink 2024-2040. Disgorged July 2018."
Vinous - "The 2009 Dom Ruinart Rose is a very pretty, understated Champagne. Bright red fruit, blood orange, mint, rose petal, dried flowers, and cinnamon are nicely lifted. This is an especially quiet, subtle Rose, especially for the year. The blend is 85% Chardonnay, mostly from Grand Crus in the Cote des Blancs(Cramant, Avize, Chouilly, Mesnil-sur-Oger) with a touch of Montagne de Reims(Sillery), plus 15% still Pinot from Ay. Disgorged in 2018, dosage is 4 grams/liter.""
