2013 Perrier Jouet 'Belle Epoque' Champagne Gift Box Epernay
Winemaker Notes: While every vintage of Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque naturally expresses the characteristics of its particular year, the personality of this iconic cuvée is clearly defined: delicacy, harmony and elegance combine to captivate the senses, with its bright gold color and subtle sparkle an inviting prelude to rich nuances of white flowers and white-fleshed fruit, rounded out by delicious notes of honey. A long, expansive finish testifies to the rare quality of this exceptional champagne.
2013 was a cool year, with late flowering in July pushing back the start of the harvest to 30 September. It was a particularly good year for Chardonnay.
“Perrier Jouët is not really looking for minerality or robust forward acidity, it’s more about soft, gentle, floral and fruit elegance,” said brand ambassador Jonny Simms when introducing the wine to the UK trade over Zoom this week.
He added that the 5% Meunier in the blend had a key role to play. “It’s unusual to find Meunier in a prestige cuvée, but it’s there for a specific reason – it brings fruitiness and acts as a bridge between the Pinot and Chardonnay,” he said.
Wine Enthusiast - "This vintage of the iconic brand, with its flowery Belle Epoque bottle, is ready to be popped. The high dosage has transformed into mature toastiness, while ripe white fruits still give freshness."
