Winemaker Notes: Que Syrah was planted in 1993 by Al and Virginia Rago above the town of Occidental about two miles inland from the Pacific. This is the oldest planting of Syrah on the Sonoma Coast and the Ragos are true mavericks in cool climate farming of this grape variety in California. The wine is electrifying in its spicy aromatic personality and fills the glass with a mix of brilliant fuchsia color and vibrant briary fruit. Que Syrah has already shown great potential in their cellar and we look forward to unlocking its riches for years to come.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM

Vinous - "The 2014 Que Syrah Vineyard is another deep, super-intense Syrah. Specifically, the interplay of varietal aromatics and deep, pliant fruit - rare to see in the same site - play off each other in a wine that dazzles from start to finish. Inky blue/purplish fruit, spices, mint, lavender and dark spices add shades of nuance on the long, beautifully persistent finish. Like all the Arnot-Roberts Syrahs, the Que Syrah was done with 100% whole clusters and aged in neutral oak. Childhood friends Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts have turned out a spectacular set of new releases. The highlights are the 2014 Pinots and Syrahs and the 2013 Cabernets, but all of the wines in this range are absolutely delicious. Arnot and Roberts have dialed in a very personal style that seeks restraint but never at the loss of intensity. The reds are typically done with high level of whole clusters and new oak is kept at a minimum throughout the cellar. These are some of the most distinctive, compelling wines being made in California today. I can't recommend them highly enough. "
