2015 Travaglini Gattinara Riserva Nebbiolo DOCG Piedmont
Winemaker Notes: Travaglini Gattinara best expresses the classic qualities of the appellation; it is a wine with marked minerality and complexity. Deep ruby red in color with garnet reflections. On the nose, aromas of red fruit, blackberry, plum and licorice with hints of vanilla and leather. Full-bodied palate, with intense flavors of cherry, raspberry and spice culminating in a long and smooth finish. Outstanding with red meat, game, and hard cheeses.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The Travaglini 2015 Gattinara Riserva is showing beautifully right now, thanks to its aromatic depth and intensity and the silky impression it leaves on the palate. The wine is so true to Nebbiolo, with wild cherry and plum backed by tar, spice and powdered licorice. It also remains truthful to the vintage with a joyous and fruit-filled exuberance. If you are new to the Gattinara appellation and you love Nebbiolo, you would do well to try this wine (in its trademarked asymmetrical bottle)."
Wine Enthusiast - "Aromas of underbrush, camphor and dark spice shape the nose along with a whiff of blue flower. The firmly structured, medium-bodied palate offers dried black cherry, star anise, clove and tobacco framed in tight, close-grained tannins. Drink 2023–2030."
