2016 Chateau Domeyne St. Estephe
Winemaker Notes: In 2006, Chateau Domeyne was purchased by Claire Villars Lurton--owner of Chateau Haut-Bages Liberal and Chateau Ferriere--and her husband, Gonzque Lurton--owner of Chateau Durfort Vivens. They poured all their energy and know-how into elevating Chateau Domeyne’s quality and reputation within the appellation.
Their vineyards cover 8.3 hectares near Chateau Calon-Segur, comprised of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 60% Merlot, with an average age of 40 years. They rest on the ridges and plateaus of Saint-Estephe’s well-draining soil, composed of clay and limestone. As a result, the wines develop round, fleshy tannins, beautiful depth of color, powerful structure, and great aromatic finesse.
Tasting Notes: Deep color, loaded with fruit and cassis, elegant tannins.
Cultivation: The vineyard of Château Domeyne is located on a beautiful hill of big gravels and it surrounds the vineyard of Château Calon‐Segur. Excellent facilities allow the winemaking of a wine full of nuances and personality. Hand picked, main sorting on the plant and final sorting on table.
Vinification: Winemaking done in traditional Bordeaux style, in stainless steel and thermo-regulated vats. Fermentation on skins for 19-23 days.
Aging: Aged in oak barrels for 12 months. 25% of new oak.
