2016 Favia 'La Magdalena' Red Blend Napa Valley
Winemaker Notes: Sourced from the coveted Summit Block at Oakville Ranch high in the eastern red hills of Oakville, this unique wine hails from one of the finest areas in the world for growing Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. We have been making wine from these vines for a decade, and the results are always spectacular. Co-fermented in this vintage, these two varieties show the absolute best of what Oakville has to offer. After 22 months in barrel and one year in bottle, this blend is tightly knit together, but with a softness and polish that makes it immediately accessible. Ripe and intense, this vintage is at once round and textured, as well as taught like a high wire. Bright plum and huckleberry, cedar, wet stone, clove, cocoa and bay leaf are just a few of the descriptors that are apropos ofthis multi-layered wine, along with tertiary tones such as balsam, antique book binding, and frankincense. 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Cabernet Franc
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Jeb Dunnuck - " Slightly deeper and richer, with powerful notes of purple and blue fruits, the 2016 La Magdalena (55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon) offers up complex spring flowers, violets, and graphite notes, full body, thrilling purity of fruit, present tannins, and a great, great finish. There’s plenty of underlying structure here and the cellar is going to be your friend. Regardless, it’s a gorgeous wine."
Vinous - "The 2016 La Magdalena is superb. Dense, pliant and richly textured, with supremely beautiful inner perfume and depth, the 2016 has so much to offer. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, wild flowers, espresso, mint, rose petal and spice notes abound in this mid-weight, yet deeply flavored Cabernet Sauvignon. Just as it was from barrel, La Magdalena is wonderfully lifted and nuanced."
Wilfred Wong - "The 2016 Favia La Magdalena Red—a blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon—is a significant wine. This bold wine is long and powerful. Its aromas and flavors of black fruit density and oak have Oakville written all over it. Pair it with a juicy, thick cut of prime rib."
