2017 AXR Cabernet Sauvignon 'Flagship Reserve' Napa Valley
Winemaker Notes: From Winemaker Jean Hoefliger, formely of Alpha Omega, Napa.
Deep ruby with garnet and royal red on the rim. Beautiful subtle notes of dark fruit like cassis, dark cherries, with touches of tarragon, thyme, cured Bresaola and saw dust. Velvety soft entrance with touches of cedar, vanilla, blackberry jam, touches of plums, tomato, dark cherry, lingering on granular dense tannins that show amazing balance, lingering on violet and dark chocolate. Named after the AxR rootstalk (Aramond x Rupestris) that was so prominent in building the modern California wine industry, AXR Winery pays homage to the so-called "roots" of the industry. By utilizing modern and innovative techniques in the cellar, we extract the uniqueness of Napa Valley's soils into wines enjoyable now, or many years from now.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Wine Enthusiast - "A soft, supple texture gives in to velvety tannins in this robustly built, complex and intensely powerful wine. Clove, black currant and black pepper dot a midpalate of viscous opulence and generous fruit, accented in tobacco and salty oak. Enjoy best from 2028–2033."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "A barrel selection, “flagship” cuvee, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Flagship is deep garnet-purple colored, giving up flamboyant creme de cassis, blackberry pie and blueberry preserves notes with hints of wilted rose, stewed tea, baking spices and tilled soil plus a waft of black olives. Full-bodied, rich and expressive, it has a firm backbone of grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant."
