2017 Domaine Breyton Crozes-Hermitage
Winemaker Notes: Breyton is made from certified organic and biodynamic syrah from the estate’s vineyards in both the southern and northern regions of the appellation. Domaine Breyton is located in the town of Beaumont-Monteux, in the southern section of Crozes-Hermitage, where Jacques Breyton farms eight hectares of vines throughout the appellation in certified biodynamic farming. Two-thirds of his vineyards surround the winery where the soils are galets: large alluvial stones with excellent drainage. His other vineyards lie in the northern sector, in the villages of Serves and Gervans. These vineyards are dramatically steep, planted in granitic soils. His Crozes-Hermitage is incredibly fresh, expressive, and classic at the same time, making it one of the most unique and true versions of this wine in the appellation.
Vintage Notes – 2017 was a very challenging vintage due to a roller coaster of climatic conditions, including the loss of much production due to historic frosts. Nonetheless, it resulted in above-average quality, with high levels of concentration and fine natural balance in the syrah grapes.
