2017 Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino Tuscany
Winemaker Notes: Montalcino’s vineyards are sheltered by Mount Amiata and kept dry by sea breezes from across the hills to the west. Densely planted vineyards produce low average yields, allowing wines with concentration, complexity and considerable aging potential. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature. Maceration lasted about 15 days in steel vats before malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. The wine was aged in large Slovenian oak casks for three years and then one year in bottle before release.
TASTING NOTE
Complex aromas with persistent and rounded flavors of spices and mushroom. Great structure persistent with noble tannins.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
James Suckling- "Lots of ripe-cherry and sandalwood aromas with hints of fresh spices. Medium body, round tannins and a savory finish. Plummy. Drink or hold."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Tenuta la Fuga is part of a larger group of wine estates in Tuscany (Ambrogio & Giovanni Folonari) that makes textbook wines that reflect their region of origin. This can be said of the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino that does not color outside the predetermined lines for a Sangiovese from Montalcino. With fruit from a hot vintage, the wine shows cassis and dark currant aromas with some dried herbs and crushed flowers. It delivers a pretty mineral note on the polished finish. Production is 22,000 bottles."
