2018 Benanti 'Rovittello Particella No. 341' Etna Rosso Riserva Sicily
Winemaker Notes: After almost thirty years of experience vinifying the well-known Etna Rosso Rovittello, in 2015 Benanti decided to aim for new heights by focusing exclusively on the small, pre-phylloxera portion of the vineyard and extending the wine’s vinification, maturation and refining period to 60 months, thereby creating this new, exclusive Etna Rosso Riserva produced in a very limited quantity.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Wine Spectator - "Elegant yet effusive, with cherry, rose, strawberry and juniper flavors gliding gracefully on the silky palate. Underscored by minerally tar and leather notes, this red is long and refreshing, with firm yet plushly textured tannins emerging on the finish."
James Suckling - "Cedar and dried flowers with some plum and orange-peel aromas that follow through to a medium body, fine tannins and a crunchy finish. Just a hint of wood at the end. Holding on nicely but ready to drink now."
Vinous - "The 2018 Etna Rosso Riserva Rovittello Particella No. 341 lifts from the glass with a spice-box bouquet, mixing camphor with cloves, incense, black cherries, burnt orange and a dusting of cocoa. It’s lifted and finessed with silky textures over a wiry framework. Tart wild berry fruits saturate, and cedary spice resonates toward the close. The 2018 finishes structured and pleasantly bitter as hints of dark chocolate and blackberry linger on and on. This is an excellent effort in a challenging vintage."
