Winemaker Notes: The Leccia castle sits on a hilltop in Castellina surrounded by 13.5ha of vineyards. The warm south to southwest exposure is offset by elevation, the vineyards rising from 300 to 500 metres above sea level.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "From a two-hectare site named Bruciagna with schistous galestro soils, the Castello la Leccia 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Bruciagna is an organic expression of 100% Sangiovese. After fermentation in steel vats, the wine ages in both botte and barrique. In fact, the bouquet is rich with spicy oak and mahogany that take away from the more nuanced aspects of the fruit. Cherry and blackberry do appear in this thickly-concentrated wine. Some 6,000 bottles were made, and the glass weight used is rather chunky."

Vinous - "The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a pretty big wine. Dark Sangiovese fruit, leather, incense, and tobacco fill out the layers. I find the Gran Selezione a bit overdone; the straight Riserva offers better balance, in my view."
