2018 Darioush 'Caravan' Cabernet Blend Napa Valley
Winemaker's Notes: Holding true to its reverent style as a rich and supple, Right-Bank influenced blend, 2018 Caravan entices with decadent flavors of plum, fig jam, blackberry compote, and chocolate ganache on a silky, sleek frame.
Notes of spiced chai, dried currants, and cinnamon add intrigue, harmonizing with the wine’s core profile of Cabernet Sauvignon. Bright, energetic, and exceptionally round and concentrated – this is a remarkable wine from a textbook growing season.
VINIFICATION: With meticulous attention to detail, Caravan is hand-harvested, clusters are hand-sorted twice before and after de-stemming. The grapes were cold soaked for 4 days then fermented in small closed topped tanks, with gentle pump-overs for optimal color extraction and tannin management. The wine was aged for 20 months, in a combination of 70% new French and European oak barrels. The wine was minimally handled through bottling.
CARAVAN STORY: Caravan shares the pedigree of Darioush’s Signature wines, but displays more ripe, saturated fruit with an elegantly textured finish. Caravan is anchored in Cabernet Sauvignon with lesser amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and/or Malbec added for depth and complexity of flavor.
58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec
