2018 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Napa Valley
Winemaker Notes: The 2017 Rutherford has a beautiful, deep garnet colored hue. The aromas are complex and brooding with notes of espresso, cedar, forest floor and blackberry. The palate reveals flavors of cocoa powder, black peppercorn, cigar box, blackberry compote and oak spice. The palate is rich and full, complemented by well structured, integrated tannins. This wine pairs great with food and will last in the cellar for decades.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
James Suckling - "Fine yet chewy tannins in this with full body and richness. Blackberry, dust, blueberry and bark character and a flavorful finish. Give this some time. Better after 2024."
Vinous - "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Rutherford) is another impressive wine in this range. Broad, ample and richly textured, the 2017 is fabulous. Dark red cherry, mocha, licorice, chocolate, spice and a bit of new oak all build as this sumptuous, medium to full-bodied wine opens in the glass. There's real presence and character. A dollop of Petit Verdot from Red Barn rounds out the blend."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford was aged for 27 months in French oak barrels, 64% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, it needs a little swirling to reveal notes of warm cassis, baked blackberries and garrigue with nuances of dried mulberries, bay leaves and tapenade plus a hint of fragrant earth. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has nice, bright, expressive black berry and savory flavors, supported by grainy tannins, finishing long and refreshing."
