2018 Maison Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Cote de Beaune
Winemaker Notes: Corton-Charlemagne 2018 is a powerful, complex wine. Its nose is intense, with notes of white stone fruits such as white peach, fresh hazelnut, vanilla, and almond paste. The wine is full-bodied for the palate, and the vanilla is complemented by aromas of fresh almond and lime blossom. The experience ends with a very fine aromatic aftertaste that has subtle saline notes.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
James Suckling - "Open and aromatic with honeysuckle flowers, dried apples and mangoes, as well as white peaches and stone. Full-bodied, this grows slowly on the palate with an intense, powerful finish. Lots of cream, cooked apples, lemons and light oak at the very end. Tight and right. Try after 2023"
Wine Spectator - "Fresh and fruity, with aromas and flavors of lemon, pear, white flowers and stone, showing great tension and an underlying mineral component that gives this energy and length. The lemon theme continues on the lingering aftertaste, along with butter and pastry accents. Best from 2022 through 2029."
Wilfred Wong - "The 2018 Louis Latour Corton-Charlemagne shows excellent density and focus on the palate. This wine excels with ripe fruit and balanced oak nuances. Enjoy it with lobster in a savory cream sauce."
Decanter - "Louis Latour dominate the appellation of Corton-Charlemagne, with 10ha under vine and lots of different aspects and altitudes to choose from in Aloxe-Corton. This has lovely floral scents that lead you into a palate that's rich, leesy and magisterial with notes of citrus, pear and banana bread, well-integrated new wood and a hint of stony reduction. Consistently the négociant's best white."
Burghound - "Here the beautifully layered nose is at once riper and more complex but also more restrained with its reasonably fresh aromas of apple, spear, spice, herbal tea and soft oak wisps. There is outstanding volume to the equally ripe and powerful flavors that exhibit a lovely underlying tension on the impressively persistent and attractively stony finish where the only nit is hint of warmth. Barrel Sample: 91-93"
