2018 Paolo Bea 'Santa Chiara' Montefalco Bianco Umbria
Winemaker Notes: Bea's Santa Chiara is truly unique from a typical orange wine. Equal parts Grachetto, Malvasia, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, and Garganega, this beautiful orange exudes a captivating wildness with floral and spicy notes. The clean and mineral driven palette is complimented with chamomile, honeysuckle, fresh orange zest, and candied apricot. Graphite and white pepper round everything out. This wine is unapologetically tannic and thought-provoking.
One of the oldest wineries in Montefalco, Azienda Agricola Paolo Bea is run by a family whose roots go back to the 1500s. Producing traditional, earthy Montefalco wines, Paolo Bea is one of the leading estates of the appellation. This is a dense but rigorous wine, a forceful wine but one that has an athletic structure and exhibits excellent balance and length. Bea's Sagrantino is charged with abundant notes of wild berries and plums and is layered with a multitude of spices, herbs, and notes of game.
