2018 Terra Costantino de Aetna Bianco
Winemaker Notes: Delicious, yes. But if a wine could be intelligent, Terra Costantino’s ‘deAetna’ would wear that description well too. An elegant, versatile wine from one of the boutique producers responsible for taking Sicily’s wines from inconsequential to sought-after over the past decade. A blend dominated by Carricante, one of the island’s indigenous grapes. Generally, Carricante brings a balance of grainy grounded minerality, assertive citrus acidity and white flower aromatics to play. Fruit comes from the Terra Costantino estate’s carefully tended Certified Organic vineyard on the southeast slope of Mount Etna. Grapes are harvested by hand, and wine ages for several months in stainless steel prior to bottling.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
James Suckling - "Aromas of apple blossom, lemon zest and curd, mango and ripe peach. It’s full-bodied and creamy with layers of stone fruit and some toasted hazelnut and lemon rind. Balanced acidity and texture."
Wine & Spirits - "The Costantino family owns 25 acres of vines on Etna’s southeastern slope. They make this crisp white from 20-year-old vines that include small portions of catarratto and minella. Bright, lemony acidity infuses the sage-inflected flavors of green apple and lime, as hints of white smoke emerge on the finish."
