2019 AXR Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Winemaker Notes: From Winemaker Jean Hoefliger, formely of Alpha Omega, Napa.
Deep, shiny ruby in appearance with touches of magenta and Ferrari red. Beautiful aromatic nose with touches of flowers such as lilac, violet and fruit such as blueberry reduction, cotton candy, rose candy, cassis jelly, apricot jam and watermelon gum. Fresh, fruity entrance, evolving on a aromatic mid-palate lingering on fresh fruit and granular tannins with touches of boysenberries, red currant, pomegranate and grapefruit.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Decanter - "Winemaker Jean Hoefliger sources grapes from the Denali Vineyard and V Madrone in St Helena, Furtado and Sleeping Lady in Yountville, and Ballard Vineyards on Spring Mountain. Restrained on the nose at first, with subtle dark fruits coated in fine graham cracker crumb, sweet cedar and chocolate. But the wine builds on the palate revealing dried strawberry, ripe boysenberry and traces of blue fruit, herbs and mineral flourishes, enrobed in palate-etching tannins. A tremendous wine."
Jeb Dunnuck - "The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon AXR Napa Valley is the flagship release from this estate. It's another deeply hued Cabernet Sauvignon and offers a more dense, concentrated, mineral-laced style in its black and blue fruits, spicy oak, notes of graphite and lead pencil, full-bodied richness, and one heck of a great finish. It needs to be forgotten for a solid 4-5 years and will evolve for 20 years or more."
