2019 Castell d'Encus 'Thalarn' Syrah Costers del Segre Catalunya
Winemaker Notes: "The Syrah wine family permits a variety of enological interpretations – from graceful to robust. Avoiding the common fruit-forward tendency, we chose instead to elicit spicy, elegant notes, favoring finesse over extraction." - Raül Bobet, Winemaker.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Even in a warmer and riper year like 2019, the 2019 Thalarn keeps the cool-climate character of the Syrah, one of the finest produced in Spain. It fermented in different materials—stone lagar, oak foudres and stainless steel—and was put through a slow malolactic of 12 months in barrel that seems to have given it complexity and nuance but no noticeable oakiness, even if it matured in oak foudres for a further 12 months after that. It has 13.5% alcohol, a little riper and rounder, with a pH of 3.48 and 5.2 grams of acidity, a velvety texture and a fine thread. It's spicy and floral with notes of wild herbs and berries. 12,000 bottles and 50 magnums produced. It was bottled in August 2022. "
