Winemaker Notes:  Château Villemaurine exhibits lovely fruit aromatics and wonderfully smooth tannins. The wine is deep, as deep as the vine roots that delve down into the limestone of our terroir to convey fine saline and mineral aromas in the wine. The wine’s structure is firm and possesses great precision. In a nutshell, this 2019 vintage could be summed up in three words: freshness, concentration and finesse.

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

James Suckling - "A perfumed nose of blackberries, blackcurrants, chocolate, undergrowth, sandalwood, sage and spice box. Pure fruit. Medium-to full-bodied with fine-grained, well-integrated tannins and fresh acidity. Plush texture with great balance. Long, delicious finish. Best after 2025."

Decanter - "Wisps of coffee and chocolate shavings, this has depth and grip and is an extremely enjoyable glass of wine that is clearly built to last, with walls and ripples of raspberry fruit. The fruit almost seems sweet because of this edge of chocolate, but the austerity of limestone closes its fist on the end of play. Hubert de Boüard consulting. Just as good as the excellent 2018, perhaps even bettering it. Tasted twice, a week apart."

Jeb Dunnuck - "Offering up notes of spicy oak, chocolate, leafy herbs, and Hermitage-like burning ember nuances, the 2019 Château Villemaurine is medium to full-bodied, has terrific red, blue, and black fruits, building tannins, and a great finish. I like its overall balance, it has solid complexity even at this young age, and it’s unquestionably an outstanding Saint-Emilion. As with most 2019's, short-term cellaring (or a healthy decant) is the name of the game, and it's going to have at least two decades of longevity. Best After 2022"

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Fleshy and generous, the 2019 Villemaurine wafts from the glass with aromas of sweet berry fruit, warm spices and creamy new oak. It's medium to full-bodied, rich and polished, with a ripe core of fruit, lively acids and fine, powdery tannins, concluding with a vanillin-inflected finish. Best after 2023."
