2019 Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc Adelaide Hills
Winemaker Notes: Shaw + Smith Sauvignon Blanc is bright and aromatic with notes of grapefruit, nashi pear and nettles. On the palate there is intense flavor with fresh, limey fruit, mouthwatering acidity and remarkable purity. Match this wine with barbecued prawns topped with avocado pico de gallo.
The Shaw + Smith winery was built in 2000, giving us the ability to whole-bunch press cold grapes, and allowing the evolution of style reflected in the first M3 Chardonnay from that 2000 vintage. The most significant event since then came in 2012 with the purchase of the Lenswood vineyard. Chardonnay was originally planted in Lenswood for sparkling wine production but as site knowledge has evolved, it now fulfils its potential for fine still wine, with finesse, flavor, and great natural acidity. Hand picked and whole bunch pressed. Fermented and matured on lees in French oak barriques and puncheons.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Wine Enthusiast - "This is an outgoing, fruit forward Sauvignon from one of Australia’s most well-known duos. It bursts with ripe peach, lime blossom and honey. Crunchy acidity balances a silky texture, and the long limey finish makes taking another sip an easy endeavor. Knock back beside a sizzling seafood barbecue."
Wine Spectator - "Generous and crisp, this white offers flavors of ripe yellow apple, pear and lemon curd that shows a lingering note of thyme. The intensity gains momentum on the finish, for a harmonious effect."
