2020 Chateau Tertre de Launay Blanc Entre Deux Mers Bordeaux
The Greffier family has been making wine for over 100 years. The 74-hectare vineyard is now in the hands of Ludovic Greffier, the 5th generation of his family to make wine on the estate. Chateau Tertre de Launay is located in the commune of Soussac, about 50 km southeast of Bordeaux in Entre-Deux-Mers. Soussac is home to some of the most renowned chateaux in the region and is considered one of the best villages for white wine in Entre-Deux-Mers. Many winegrowers in the region uprooted their white grape varieties in the mid-20th Century, replacing them with more popular red varieties. In recent years however, white wines have been making a comeback, due to the demand for crisp and dry whites.
The vineyard's soil is predominantly clay and limestone, with vines an average of 30 years old. The high proportion of Muscadelle makes this Chateau Tertre de Launay unique. It is a difficult grape, often susceptible to grey rot. However, when harvested at the perfect ripeness, the Muscadelle contributes complexity, finesse, and its own distinctive aromas to the wine.
Chateau Tertre de Launay is a full, rich, dry white wine with tremendous fruit and great appeal. It has complex mineral and herb notes, which are not all that common in white Bordeaux. There is a rare and luxurious apple and citrus lushness that is smooth on the palate. It is a delight to drink young and enjoy with oysters or a cold shrimp salad. You also can't miss pairing it with lean fish prepared fresh and light or with grilled pork sausages and caramelized onions.
