2020 Domaine J. A. Ferret Pouilly-Fuisse Macon
Winemakers Notes: The Pouilly-Fuissé is a blend of only the best vineyard parcels with ten to thirty five-year-old vines from the Fuissé amphitheater and soils composed of limestone and clay. Each parcel was vinified separately to ensure the finest expression of the fruit. Half the wine was fermented in enameled tanks and half in two to four-year-old oak barrels. The wine was aged for ten months on lees in French oak barrels, not new, from Tronçais, Vosges and Nevers stave wood. Pair with shellfish and mollusks, seafood risotto, grilled or pan-fried fish, veal cutlets with creamy sauces and cheeses, especially goat or hard cow milk cheeses.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Decanter - "Beautiful lemony fruit, with mineral notes and bright aromas of acacia flowers. On the palate the texture is silky and lively, but there is a pleasant creamy edge to give balance. First-rate Chardonnay. This cuvée is a blend of many parcels over 9.5ha. The grapes were picked at 13% potential alcohol and fermented in stainless steel tanks, with a large percentage of the lees to give it more body - more were used in 2020 than ever before. After fermentation, the wine was aged in used tanks."
Burghound - "(from Fuissé fruit that includes 10% 1ers). Discreet but perceptible wood frames ripe aromas of essence of pear and apple and petrol with citrus top notes. There is excellent volume to the succulent, round and intense mediumbodied flavors that display fine length on the balanced moderately dry finish. This mouthcoating effort should reward mid-term keeping though it would not be a vinous crime to open one young."
