2020 Domaine Les Pins 'Les Rochettes' Cabernet Franc Bourgueil
Winemaker Notes: Domaine Les Pins' Bourgueil pours a deep ruby in the glass. The wine is excitingly aromatic with fresh aromas of raspberry, violets and am almost lead-pencil like minerality. On the palate this Bourgueil is absolutely delicious and a supreme example of why this appellation in the Loire Valley produces some of the best Cabernet Franc in the world. Layers of fresh red fruit mixed with spice and flowers are mingled together in a medium bodied wine with a fresh acidity. The flavors develop effortlessly and flow into a seamless finish. Pair with roast meats but also feel free to be adventurous and pair with Szechuan dishes.
Domaine Les Pins is in its fifth generation of family leadership under Philippe Pitault-Landry and consists of 29 hectares, planted exclusively to Cabernet Franc in Bourgueil and St. Nicolas de Bourgueil. Both appellations sit on the northern bank of the Loire River, with Bourgueil being directly across the river from the other great Cabernet Franc appellation, Chinon. St. Nicolas de Bourgueil is smaller appellation carved out of the north-western part of Bourgueil. The vineyards of Bourgueil are planted on a tuffeau (a type of limestone), gravel and sand plateau along the banks of the Loire river. The vines of St. Nicolas are planted further inland on lighter, alluvial soils with more sand than gravel.
