2020 Foradori 'Granato' Teroldego Vignetti delle Dolomiti

Winemaker Notes: Elisabetta Foradori is an incredibly important and needed voice on terroir and heritage. She works sensitively with native varieties to Trentino, guiding them as they need, not as she wills. In her words: ‘We do not intervene in the winery; nothing is added, but we guide the wine while paying attention to its needs. Thus, the wine keeps an expressive spontaneity and bears the personality of its intense and live raw material. In this way, we seem to bring into the wine glass the fragrance of the flowers from the mountain pastures, the minerality of the surrounding cliffs, the transparency of the mountain skies, the character of the people that live in these alpine valleys." Granato is an historic and special wine for Foradori. It comes from their original Campo Rotaliano estate vineyard on this flat, sunny, well-drained plateau with sandy, stony, Dolomitic limestone soils. And as is true of all Foradori reds, the farming is certified-biodynamic and the winemaking very light-handed.

The name "Granato" means "garnet" in Italian but is especially a reference to the pomegranate or in Italian melograno, a fruit of Mediterranean origin, like the first grape vines brought to Italy millenia ago. Elisabetta has always felt stirred by the vitality within this bright, juicy, tannic, many-seeded orb; the name honours that connection she always made between the self-contained beauty and energy of this old-vine wine and this ancient fruit.

Vinous - "So youthful yet utterly beautiful, the 2020 Teroldego Granato lifts from the glass with an infectiously spicy bouquet, at times autumnal, savory at others, mixed with depths of dark red fruits. This floods the palate with a wave of intense raspberry and wild berries, quickly saturating yet with a hint of sour citrus that provides a lovely balance. A pretty inner sweetness is left to linger, as this finishes structured and remarkably long with a refreshing air of inner rose and wild strawberry that carries on. This is powerful, yet elegant as well, and perfectly balanced for a long evolution."
