2020 Mazzei 'Philip' Cabernet Sauvignon Tuscany
Winemaker Notes:This wine truly represents the different faces of contemporary Tuscan winemaking. It brings together the fragrance and elegance of wines produced in the traditional area of Chianti Classico, with the opulence and power of wines from the more recently discovered Maremma region. Deep, dark purple color with intriguing black cherry aromas, balsamic herbs, coffee and lightly toasted oak. Harmonious flavors of dark fruit on the palate, dried flowers, chocolate and vanilla. Exotic, complex character, full bodied with polished, velvety tannins, and a long, smooth finish.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
James Suckling - "This is aromatic with blueberries and black cherries, as well as hints of blue flowers, spices, dark chocolate and crushed stones. Full-bodied with layers of firm, fine-grained tannins and deep blue fruit. Structured and focused with a lingering finish that continues to build. Well crafted. Better after 2025."
Vinous - "The 2020 Philip (Cabernet Sauvignon) is a blend from vineyards in Castellina and Maremma. Rich and pliant, the 2020 offers tons of varietal character. Dark plum, menthol, licorice and espresso all build in this supple, resonant red. Attractive floral and spice top notes brighten the finish. "
Wine Spectator - "A bright, elegant red, showing cherry and black currant flavors, with brisk acidity and dusty tannins. Packs ample fruit, with a touch of tobacco and wild herbs, despite the lean profile."
