2020 Domaine Etienne Sauzet 1er Cru 'Champ Canet' Puligny-Montrachet
Winemaker Notes: The super-sleek and almost painfully intense flavors exude a subtle minerality on the cuts-like-a-knife, linear and chiseled finish. This sappy and palate staining effort is also lovely if not quite so tightly wound.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Decanter - "There is ripe apple fruit, a bit of honey and some walnut on the nose. The texture shows a bit more richness and warmth, yet it retains an essential elegance and balance that carry it to impressive length. Well done. Emilie Boudot and Benoît Riffault farm a hectare here, near the border with Meursault. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040. "
Vinous - "The 2020 Puligny-Montrachet Champ Canet 1er Cru has one of the most mineral/terroir-driven aromatics from Sauzet, tensile with flint and gravelly scents. The palate is well balanced with a touch of reduction on the entry, good weight and acidity. Sapid, concentrated, there is a lovely stem ginger element on the finish that lingers. Lots of potential but this will need time. "
Burghound - "There is a whiff of phenolic character to the ripe nose of white and yellow peach, petrol, floral and subtle exotic tea wisps. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense flavors exude a subtle minerality on the cuts-like-a-knife, linear and chiseled finish. This sappy and palate staining effort is also lovely if not quite so tightly wound. *Burghound Outstanding!*"
