2020 The Language of Yes (Randall Graham) Grenache 'En Passerillage' Rancho Real Santa Maria Valley
Winemaker's Notes: The simultaneous release adopted the extremely non-standard practice of air-drying the grapes post-harvest. Our first vintage from the Rancho Réal vineyard is an experiment in phenolic extraction and a realization of our intent to not slavishly replicate the wines of Southern France, but rather to seek to find and amplify the unique characteristics of our climats and terroirs in the Central Coast of California.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The 2020 Grenache En Passerillage, made with 50% whole clusters, is a refreshing, easy-to-drink style. It has a pale ruby-purple color and layered, spicy aromas of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries with hints of autumn leaves, orange peel, aniseed, lilac and lavender. Despite its slender frame of dusty tannins and juicy acidity, it offers notably concentrated flavors, lots of spicy accents and a long, floral finish. Yum!"
James Suckling - "So perfumed and fresh with strawberries, red fruit and some roses. Medium-bodied with tension and brightness. Citrus undertones. Fine tannins. Zingy and electric. Firm acidity makes it tight. A new collaboration between winemaker Randall Graham and Jo Gallo, who owns the vineyards. Drink or hold."
Wine Enthusiast - "Crisp aromas of strawberry, pomegranate, rose petals and sumac are sharp and focused on the nose of this bottling from Randall Graham, who slightly dried these grapes post-harvest. Sour cherry and alpine strawberry flavors rise on the sip, with fresh flowers and a light hint of dried meat also showing."
