2022 Chateau Bonalgue Pomerol
Winemaker Notes: Classic Pomerol, the bouquet is rich, port-like but with a degree of restraint. This Merlot dominant wine is oozing rich plum fruits, with a complex yet robust structure and impressive depth and length. There is a core of mulled black fruits, raisins and prune with a delectable balancing freshness and spice. A deeply big and powerful Pomerol with a long life.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
James Suckling - "Cut velvet textured tannins with fresh berry and dark chocolate character. Medium body. Fresh finish. (93-94pts)"
Jeb Dunnuck - "The 2022 Château Bonalgue comes from a 10-hectare vineyard with gravelly and clay soils and is composed of 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. Juicy and pure, it delivers red and black fruits, spice, leafy herbs, and violets, with subtle floral nuances. Fine tannins and a supple, pretty style make for an elegant Pomerol that’s going to drink beautifully over the coming 10-15 years."
Vinous - "The 2022 Bonalgue was picked on 5 September and aged 45% in new oak. It has quite a high-toned and ripe nose: black cherries, licorice and just a touch of prunes. The palate is tannic on the entry, dense and grippy, with layers of black plum and raspberry fruit laced with cedar and black pepper. It feels imposing at the moment, but with bottle age, it should mellow to become an enjoyable, if broad-shouldered, Pomerol. (90-92pts)"
