2022 Domaine Francois Carillon Puligny-Montrachet
Winemaker Notes: This linear wine is composed of a beautiful acidity which underlines and prolongs aromas of white peach and the long citrus finish.
The Puligny-Montrachet comes from four hectares of vines, spread over 8 different localities: Derrière la Velle, Reuchaux, Corvée, Levrons, Aubues, Tremblots, Noyer Bret and Rousselles. The vinification is done in the traditional Burgundian style, with fermentation taking place in small oak casks. The wine is then aged in Allier oak.
The Carillon family Domaine dates back to the 16th century. Today, François Carillon farms almost 20 acres of vineyards, located principally in Puligny Montrachet.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Jasper Morris - "François is fortunate enough to have 5.85 hectares of Puligny-Montrachet from six plots. He is planning some parcellaire cuvées in 2023. We are back to finesse with this wine. The 2022 Puligny is beautifully aromatic, with all the floral character one could hope for. This has a brilliantly light touch despite the energy and the intensity. I think it is going to be a show-stopper. Excellent natural acidity as well. Drink from 2026-2032. (10.23)"
Burghound - "A whiff of smoky reduction is not enough to entirely mask the cool apple and lemon scents. The succulent and round medium-bodied flavors are noticeably finer on the lightly stony, clean and dry finish that would also benefit from developing more depth. Still, I like the delivery and more complexity should reasonably develop if given a chance. (88-91pts)"
