2022 Domaine Hauvette 'Petra' Rose Alpilles 1.5L
Winemaker Notes: Nestled among the foothills of Les Alpilles, where the clay and limestone soil retain moisture for the arid summer months, the Mistral blows half the year, and garrigue is seemingly everywhere. Dominique Hauvette, seeking more sunshine, left her job as a lawyer in the Savoie, and settled here. She re-discovered her passion for raising horses and began studying oenology. Thirty-some years later and Dominique now has 17 hectares of vines and an international reputation. Dominique’s conversion to biodynamics starting in 2000 added rigor to her intuitive organic practices, and coupled with her magical terroir she has found an exciting recipe for success.
Petra is an outstanding rosé crafted by a Provence domain with an established reputation: Domaine Hauvette. This is a blend of mainly Cinsault with Grenache and Syrah grapes. Grown biodynamically, these southern varietals have been vinified in concrete, egg-shaped containers that help to preserve the texture and freshness of the wines. Good to serve with food, this cuvée marries powerful aromatics with minerality and flavour. On the nose we find fruity and floral notes that carry through to the palate. The mineral aspect of the wine is what lifts it; there is no heaviness here! It will pair nicely with a summery dish such as salad, a rustic tart, or even vegetable lasagne.
