Winemaker Notes: The foundation of the extraordinary success story of Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné is an extraordinary passion for viticulture and an extraordinary terroir. The magical moment of this story is when they came together. In 1834 Antoine Jaboulet founded a winery in Tain l'Hermitage that was to experience an unexpected boom under his sons Paul and Henry. Paul, the elder, gave it the name, then one generation followed the next. Today, Frédéric Jaboulet and Frédéric Mairesse run the Domaines, supported by the Frey family, a long-established family of winemakers from Champagne who took over the property in 2006. The usual unusual top quality of Domaines Paul Jaboulet Aîné leaves no doubt about the success of this collaboration! The terroirs remain outstanding, the yields are reduced. The approximately 100 hectares of vineyards are cultivated according to integrated viticulture methods, the selected grapes are vinified with the greatest care, caution and rigor together with the qualified oenologist Caroline Frey and the wines are finally matured in the VINEUM, the thousand-year-old cellar with its Gallo-Roman tunnels. The jewel of the house is the legendary cult wine Hermitage La Chapelle, whose 1961 vintage was named one of the twelve greatest wines of the 20th century.
Paul Jaboulet's Viognier was expanded in a stainless steel tank. The concentrated nose shows very nice aromas of apricots, nectarines, grapefruit, melon, elderflower and acacia blossom. Juicy on the palate, lots of fruit, rich in finesse, elegant, beautiful play, charming and long-lasting.
