2022 The Sadie Family "'T Voetpad" White Blend Swartland
Winemaker Notes: With the first smell of this 2022 Voetpad, we thought, wow, let’s not even write a
note and ruin it! This 2022 ‘T Voetpad is incredibly expressive, and the usual waxy and lanolin
aromatics are to be found, but the cordial limey aromatics, dried straw bales, and a dash of
melon are concentrated aspects. The palate has a lingering aftertaste, is incredibly restrained,
and the wine is light on its feet. The tannins are restrained, and the acidity is very soft on the
finish. It is one of this vineyard’s most elegant and refined versions. We also had to pick slightly
earlier due to the looming heat waves. The wine is just a Mindbender this year.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Vinous - "The 2022 T'Voetpad is a blend of Semillon Blanc and Gris, Palomino, Chenin Blanc and Muscat, whole bunch pressed into old )foudres. This is quite potent on the nose: orange rind, lanolin and pressed white flowers that are beautifully defined. The palate is taut and fresh with orange rind and marmalade tinctures, tensile and saline, with a persistent and powerful finish. This is Sadie's smallest cuvée, and it's magnificent."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Made from a blend of Sémillon Blanc and Semillon Gris, Palomino, Chenin Blanc and Muscat, the 2022 Old Vine Series T Voetpad comes from the oldest co-planted vineyard in the country. It is mineral, with zesty citrus notes that entice and delight. Medium-bodied, the palate is bright and popping yet shows surprising phenolic bitterness and a kiss of skin tannins across the long, lingering, spicy finish. Give it one more year in the bottle and enjoy with food. Only 2,200 bottles were produced."
