2022 Worlds Apart 'Blewitt Springs' Grenache Adelaide Hills

Winemaker Notes: Bright red. Alluring, pinot-like aromas of fresh red flowers, cardamom dusted-red berries, rose oil, touches of green peppercorns, blood orange, and a distant touch of gum tree. The palate is tight and focused with zesty raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that put on weight in the glass while maintaining vivacity. The texture is fine with lace-like tannins and high-toned acidity that guides toward a penetrating and memorable finish.Most wax poetically about the ‘Pinosity’ of Grenache. Rarely do wines deliver, but Louis simply nails this one in the light, crunchy expression of Grenache. It comes from Blewitt springs, between McLaren Flat and Clarendon, in the middle of the rolling hills of McLaren Vale. This area is home to a diverse array of soil types, but is most famous for its ancient sand dunes where Grenache with vine age makes stunningly perfumed, pretty and intriguing wine.

Louis Schofield of Worlds Apart makes light to medium bodied wines from Southern Australia, inspired by great Burgundies and “cult producers” from Europe and Australia. The handful of varieties he works with, ranging from Nero d’Avola to Riesling, allows for some insurance in the event of bushfires, an all-too-common occurrences these days, and it gives Louis many different canvases on which to paint. His wines represent the best of Australia’s lighter, easy-drinking sippers.

The oak feels either nonexistent or very well hidden, leaving, instead, room for juicy fruit amid the prominent skins-derived tannins. Energetic and comfortable in its own skin."
