2023 Domaine Jean Foillard Morgon Cote Du Py Beaujolais
Winemaker Notes: Serious minerality, with earthy stone and plum notes. Dusty tannins and a long evolution in the glass that keeps you studying.
This estate comprises nearly fourteen hectares. Foillard’s wines are deep, structured, and complex, with a velvety lushness that makes them irresistible when young despite their aging potential. Jean raises his wines in older barrels sourced from top estates in Burgundy, a logical decision for someone crafting Gamay in a Burgundian style. It is the passion and dedication of vignerons like this that have brought pride back to the crus of the Beaujolais.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Vinous - "The 2023 Morgon Côte du Py comes from several parcels of granite and schistous soils with many centurion vines. This has a wonderful, very complex bouquet with exquisite delineation: crushed stone filters through dark berry fruit alongside hints of ash and light stony scents. The sapid and vivacious palate has filigree tannins, a silver thread of acidity, and a touch of cracked black pepper towards the long finish. This is one of the best Morgons you can buy…but that's old news."
