2021 Skouras 'Salto' Wild Yeast Mavrofilero Peloponnese Greece
Winemaker Notes: Originally the color is almost transparent with a light gray hue. Nose of high intensity and complexity with aromas of rose, jasmine, sweet lemon, lime, grapefruit, and citrus. On the palate, it is medium-bodied with an explosive, delicious, refreshing acidity and aromas of citrus, flowers, and tropical fruits. Medium-duration aftertaste with complexity.
Salto – Like a jump in the unknown. A wine of 100% Mavrofilero that ferments with wild yeast. Mavrofilero is one of the most aromatic clones of Moscofilero and is called as Mavro(black)-filero because of its dark pinkish skin. The winery started producing this variety in 2005. The vineyards are located in Mantineia at 600m with a clay-sandy dominant type of soil. The Mavrofilero ferments with wild yeast. The reason for this choice was to achieve the best expression of the aromas of the variety and to enhance the evolution of the wine in the bottle.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Wine Enthusiast - "There is ample acidity and salinity on the palate of this bright, almost bracing wine made from Greece's indigenous Moscofilero grape. The green, faintly soapy notes on the palate suggest it might need a bit more time in the bottle before it's at its peak." (ES 5.23)
