2018 Domaine Dujac Morey St Denis ‘Monts Luisants’ Blanc 1er Cru
Winemaker Notes: It is said by the locals that the leaves of the vine are very yellow and never turn red in autumn. Late in the evening the sun shines through the canopy illuminating the area brightly. This could explain the word Luisants, present participle of the verb Luire, from Latin LUCERE (gleam, shine, light.) Dujac has produced this wine since 2003 from Chardonnay grapes and the vines are organically farmed.
Decanter - "Picked early to retain acidity in 2018 - and showing a chiselled pH of 3.0 - this is a superb, almost vintage-defying expression of Morey-St-Denis' greatest white wine vineyard. Fermented in 15% new wood, it's taut, tangy and scalpel-sharp with wonderful crunch and focus and a chalky, wonderfully refreshing undertone."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Aromas of citrus oil, white flowers, green apple and pastry cream preface the 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Monts Luisants Blanc, a medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive wine that's racy and tensile. With a finished pH of less than 3.0, this certainly challenges preconceptions about the 2018 vintage. (92-94 pts)"
John Gilman - "The 2018 les Monts Luisants Blanc from Domaine Dujac is another lovely example of the vintage in the making. It does not quite have the same mid-palate volume of the Combettes, but offers up lovely aromatic complexity in its blend of apple, lime, white flowers, chalky soil tones, citrus peel and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full and beautifully detailed, with a fine sense of balance, very good backend mineral drive and lovely grip on the long, complex and classy finish. This too is really charming this year."
