2021 Domaine J. A. Ferret 'Clos de Prouges' Pouilly-Fuisse Macon

Winemakers Notes: Velvety and expressive, this Clos des Prouges develops aromas of fern and oak moss. It is rich in style, a characteristic of Fuissé wines. It has a remarkable mouth feel and roundness, an overall fleshy and juicy wine. Great ageing potential.

This Clos is located in the heart of Fuissé. A 5 acre vineyard on a soft slope with east orientation, the soil contains limestone marls. A third of the vines were planted in 2006, a third in 1986 and a third in 1956. Fermentation and ageing took place in barrels: a third in new barrels, a third in one year old barrel and a third in 2 years old barrels over 9 months. Ageing is then finished in stainless steel tanks on lies over a 5 month span.

Burghound - "A cool, airy and elegant nose reflects notes of white fleshed fruit, spice and mineral reduction that are trimmed in more discreet wood influence. The rich and nicely concentrated medium weight flavors also possess a highly attractive mouthfeel that carries over to the very dry finish that is both more complex and a bit more persistent as well. Vinous - "The 2021 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Prouges might not be a Premier Cru, but it is treated like one by the winemaking team. Nevertheless, it doesn’t fully engage on the nose as much as the Clos de Jeanne. It’s tightly knit and stoic at the moment. The palate is better with fine weight. It’s fresh and malic in style, with a bright Granny Smith and yellow plum-infused finish. The 2021 ends on a high note"
