CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "Notably more fresh and lively than the Lagniappe Syrah, the 2014 Syrah John Lewis is a pretty, perfumed effort that has classic notes of blueberries, spice box, lavender and olives. Medium to full-bodied, structured and tannic, it has nicely integrated acidity, a beautiful mid-palate and a great finish. Forget bottles for 2-3 years and enjoy over the following decade."
Vinous - "Full ruby-red. Wild, musky perfume of raspberry, lavender, brown spices and minerals. Penetrating, juicy, extremely youthful wine offering terrific peppery, spicy, violety intensity without any impression of weight. This very concentrated, dry, sharply delineated Syrah will need at least a few years in bottle to present its fruit. Finishes with a strong peppery quality and saline minerality."
Wine & Spirits - "As in past vintages with Gramercy’s John Lewis, Harrington reserves the right to draw from any vineyard, but the wine invariably ends up sourced from a single parcel—Block 46 at Les Collines. This wine begins fermentation as intact bunches, some of the lot in concrete vats. The result carries scents of soil and olives, weaving like a fine tendril of purple smoke, an intriguing mélange of savory elements, held at a remove. The flavors are grounded by a fine dark core of purple fruit, needing time to knit."
Wine Enthusiast - "This wine all comes from Block 46 of Les Collines Vineyard and was fermented 100% whole cluster in a mixture of concrete and stainless steel. This vineyard's signature violet aromas are accented by plum, smoked meat and herb. The palate is elegantly styled with tart, fresh acids and plenty of hang time on the finish."
