2019 Chateau Clinet Pomerol

Winemaker Notes:  A vintage ranked among the very best. This decade has produced a number of powerful, voluptuous vintages (2010, 2016, 2018) and 2019 is no exception. Château Clinet 2019 remains true to the unique style of Clinet. With a greater presence in the blend than in previous vintages, the Cabernet Sauvignon helps to shape a wine that displays freshness, tension, structure and elegance.

Jeb Dunnuck - "An 80/20 split of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that will spend 16-20 months in 75% new French oak, the 2019 Château Clinet sports a dense purple color as well as a stunning bouquet of blackcurrants, mulberries, unsmoked tobacco, chocolate, damp earth, camphor, and who knows what else. Beautifully textured, flawlessly balanced, and full-bodied, it builds incrementally on the palate and has perfectly integrated acidity and tannins, no hard edges, and world-class purity of fruit. James Suckling - "A full-bodied Pomerol with dark-fruit, coconut, chocolate and hazelnut character on both the nose and palate. Fine-tannined with an intensely tight and chewy texture. Spice at the end. Very flavorful and muscular, yet it’s balanced and precise with well-toned form. Needs five or six years to resolve. Best after 2027."


Robert Parker's Wine Advocate - "The 2019 Clinet is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested from the 23rd of September to the 3rd of October. The alcohol weighed in at 14.5%. It is aging in French oak barriques, 75% new, using the OXOLINE system in order to minimize stirring. It is expected to age in barrels for 16 months. Opaque purple-black colored, it bursts from the glass with bold scents of ripe black plums, blackberry pie and blueberry compote with an undercurrent of redcurrant jelly, raspberry preserves, licorice, molten chocolate and cardamom with a fragrant waft of red roses. The palate is rich, full-bodied and fantastically opulent, with layers of exotic spices emerging among all the black fruit preserves flavors, framed by velvety tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and hedonic. Vinous - "The 2019 Clinet is fabulous, just as it was in barrel. A wine of substance and depth, the 2019 has a sense of poise that is so appealing. Crushed flowers, spice, menthol and dried herbs add pretty savory top notes. The 2019 is impeccable from start to finish."


Decanter - "Seductive and appealing blend of rich coffee and chocolate alongside pulsing cassis and bilberry fruits. Great quality Clinet, extremely well expressed with controlled ripe fruits and firm tannins that provide a pretty strict frame at this point. This is a high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon for a Pomerol wine, and it gives characteristic poise and balance. A yield of 38hl/ha. 75% new oak. Drinking Window 2028 - 2044"
