Graham’s 'Six Grapes Reserve' Port Douro
Winemaker Notes: Six Grapes has a seductive, rich aroma of ripe plums, cherries, and dark chocolate notes. On the palate, it's complex, with an excellent structure and a long, lingering finish. Six Grapes is one of Graham's original Port blends--it is a very full-bodied, luscious wine drawn from the same vineyards as Graham's Vintage Ports. Blended from two or three years' harvests, the wine is an average of five to six years old when it is lightly filtered and bottled.
Serving and pairing suggestions: Six Grapes is bottled ready to drink after about five years of cask aging. It has a t-cap closure, which means that you don't need a corkscrew to open it and that it should stay fresh for up to two months if stored in a cool, dark place or the refrigerator. Serve it in a glass with at least a six-ounce capacity so that you may appreciate the wine's aromas. Six Grapes pairs particularly well with dark chocolate, but is also fantastic on its own as a luscious dessert in a glass.
Blend: 33.3% Tinta Roriz, 33.3% Touriga Nacional, 33.3% Touriga Franca
TASTING NOTES
Aged for two years in seasoned casks before being bottled, Six Grapes is a youthful, bright, and complex reserve port. Known for its finesse, Six Grapes is full-bodied and marked by its fresh aromas of blackberry, liquorice and cassis. Generous black fruit flavours on the palate make it perfect for pairing with dark chocolate.
An iconic brand… lifted and fresh. Focused and intense on the finish. It has a beautiful expression of fruit. Originating in the 19th century, Graham’s winemakers would mark each barrel of port using grape symbols to rate the wine from one to six. The symbol of six grapes denoted complexity, structure, and balance. Wines destined for Vintage Port. But not all of them.
By the early 1900’s, Graham’s started bottling wine selected from these barrels to produce a reserve port like no other: Six Grapes. Over a century later, the wine continues to be Graham’s signature reserve port
CRITICAL ACCLAIM
Decanter - "Ripe and opulent plummy fruit on the nose, big and bold. Well extracted deep fruits on the palate framed by well balanced tannins and freshness."
Wilfred Wong - "The Graham's Six Grapes has always been one of my favorites amongst the reserve Portos. Deep, rich, and satiny, this one drinks smooth and long. I would pair it with more decadent desserts such as dark chocolate mousse or thick mocha cheesecake."
