2017 Luli Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands
Winemaker Notes: An exhilarating expression of this varietal from the Santa Lucia Highlands, the 2017 Luli Chardonnay harmonizes fruit from two sustainably farmed vineyards in this narrow, fog-laden appellation. Notes of red apple skin, wet stone, brioche, and citrus peel mingle in the glass as this wine begins to breathe. The cooling breezes of the Monterey Bay allow for slow ripening, which yields fruit of greater complexity, while maintaining vibrant, natural acidity. Neutral oak and lees contact for the duration of aging produce undeniable complexity and depth on the palate, complemented by flavors of lemon curd, pear tart, and stone fruit.
From Madeline Triffon MS: “Fermented 50/50 in neutral barrels and stainless steel, giving the wine a little richness but no overt oaky tones. Luli is the brilliant brain child of exuberant Master Sommelier Sara Floyd and the Pisoni family, renowned growers in central California’s cool Santa Lucia Highlands.”
Jeb Dunnuck - "I loved the 2017 Chardonnay Santa Lucia Highlands, which comes from top sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands and was fermented and aged all in barrel. This beauty has textbook notes of pear and orchard fruits, lots of honeysuckle and white flowers, medium body, and a rounded yet vibrant texture. With terrific purity of fruit as well as balance, it’s an incredibly high-quality Chardonnay that more than over-delivers at the price. Buy some."
