2018 Round Pond Cabernet Sauvignon 'Kith & Kin' Napa Valley
Winemakers Notes: This wine is approachable in its youth, with balanced tannins and a fruit forward character. The vast majority of fruit comes from the estate, supplemented by a limited amount from Napa Valley growers.
This crowd pleaser intrigues the senses with aromatics of vanilla, ripe black cherry, and cassis, layered with earthier notes of cedar and violet. This wine maintains its focus with nicely integrated tannins that deliver explosive flavors of blackberry jam and dried cranberries, mingled with pleasing undertones of leather and sweet French oak. The harmonious finish lingers with a kiss of oral essence balanced with an exciting menagerie of dried savory spices.
James Suckling - "A rather rich, high-toned red with lots of jammy character and lots of wood. Full, rich and layered. Flavorful finish. Slightly one-dimensional. Drinkable now, but better in 2022."
Wilfred Wong - "The 2018 Kith & Kin Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the first of this vintage to arrive in the marketplace, and it is excellent. This wine shows power and depth on the palate. Pair its generous aromas and flavors of black fruits and violets with grilled short ribs."
Wine Spectator - "This red delivers vivid plum and blackberry fruit, with polished edges and light violet and anise hints in the background. Remains unencumbered by toast notes, so the fruit sails on nicely."
Jeb Dunnuck - "The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Kith & Kin is a good value, offering an uncomplicated, charming style that has good varietal notes of blue fruits, sappy herbs, and violets. It brings lots of supple, sweet fruit on the palate and is medium-bodied and elegant. This is a wine that shines incredibly well on its drinkability."
